Flag
of O Barco, capital of Co. Valdeorras![]() The modern flag of the township of O Barco de Valdeorras, in the Galician Highlands, was designed circa 2003 inspired in a 17th century literary reference of a County Valdeorras' military banner. The flag was officially approved by Galician Government Decree 112/2007, on May 24th 2007, as follows: "The flag field is diagonally divided from upper hoist to lower fly. The lower part is red and the upper part is horizontally divided, one third in white and two thirds in light blue". The design of this modern flag is intended to represent the Highland landscape of County Valdeorras: - The red diagonal area symbolises the shape of a mountain. Red is also the colour of Co. Valdeorras' characteristic clay ground. - The blue area, in light blue as in the National Flag of Galicia, represents the river Sil which crosses Co. Valdeorras from East to West. - The white area symbolises the sky and the snow-capped mountains of this Galician highland county. |
